Venture Challenge
The Venture Challenge is a Royal Roads University tradition. For more than a decade on campus and more than two years online, our Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management students have been learning about social entrepreneurship in a proactive, hands-on way. In a fun and friendly competition, teams of five undergraduate students with only $5 seed capital have five weeks to raise as much money as they can for the charity of their choice by starting and operating a small business from scratch.

The Venture Challenge happens three times per year; once with on-campus students and twice with students in our blended online program. In February, 2011 our on-campus students raised a total of $30,000 for 13 different charities. In March, 2011 seven teams of online students raised almost $5,000 through their mission-driven e-commerce websites. In the fall of 2011, nine teams raised almost $14,000.
To the best of our knowledge, engaging distance learning students in this real-world business and community building competition is an experience unique to Royal Roads University.
The administration of this experiential exercise is a collaborative effort between our faculty, the Eric C. Douglass Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, and the leadership of our school's SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) chapter.
